I sure could use your help with this....
January 27, 2009 07:49 AM by Marc Goldman

I could sure use your help with something.

You see, we just completed (after months and months of
testing) the revamp of our hosting service, HostOne:

and we got this really cool mascot designed (who you are
going to be seeing a lot more of lately) by our awesome
animation and design squad.

Anyway, there is a HUGE debate going on internally about what
to call this guy.

It seems like everyone in the company has some sort of name
for him and they are VERY opinionated.

So, since we couldn't decide (and frankly some people were
coming to blows about it) I - trying to be peacemaker - came
up with what I think is a pretty cool solution.

I said:

Why don't we let our customers, subscribers, blog visitors
and affiliates decide what we should call him.

People seemed to like that idea, and once I got them to put
down their clubs and meat cleavers :D, we set out to come up
with a little contest for you all.

So here is the deal:

We have just a few days before February 1 - which is the
big launch date for our new service (at least internally),
we think its going to be pretty big but we don't want our
friend to go without a name for that date.

So, if you can help us name the Goldbar mascot you can win
a 1 oz GOLD BAR (Value today $940.00)

Here is how you play:

Step 1: Please visit http://hostone.goldbar.net

Step 2: Wait for the page to load and check out our brand new
animated mascot (loads in a overlay)

Step 3: Tell me what you think his name should be. Here is
how you do that: Either post a comment here
or if you use Twitter I am @marcgoldman DM or @ replies
welcome.

Step 4: We will compile all answers and choose a winner on
Feb 1.

The deadline for entries is 11:59 PM Eastern time on Jan 31
2009

Step 5: we send the winner a Genuine Gold Bar in the mail

Simple as that.

So - if you can really help us name our new friend - I would
greatly appreciate it.

Marc Goldman

PS This contest is open to all

At first I thought his name was "Golddigger Gus", and then I realized it was in fact Golddigger Bart... bar none!

Thanks for the fun contest. And by the way, he's not appearing yet in Firefox, at least the configuration I'm using. I had to go to iE to see him, and it is a cool effect!

He looks like a "Willie" to me! (Maybe it's because of his resemblance to "Grounds Keeper Willie" from the Simpsons--Ooops, may have legal issues if you use that name. Better not.)

How about Clarence? You need an old-fashioned name to go with the old-West gold-digger mascot.

Dam thing scared hell out of me Marc, wasn\'t expecting that at all.

I think you should name him Cornelius, After the christmas cartoon.

Best Pic-man I ever saw. Have a Wonderful Day, \"The Leprechaun\"

Mags Says:

Well, I think it needs to be Digger.
